Since I will hopefully be moving in the next few months to a city with a half way decent public trasport system I felt this service was worth mentioning. The nextr app seems quite useful for anyone riding by way of public transit, though it is currently only in Europe I am hoping someone in the states will come up with a similar application for the states. It would especially come in handy for travelers who are trying to find an easy way to get around.
I had some serious doubts that this would work. I never thought wine would survive a lengthy ride on the frame of a bike, but this video sold me and now I want one. (or two). Oppsmark is a company from montreal that makes handmade leather goods for urban living. If your not into biking or wine the have an array of other well made products. I think as a business they are really connecting with their target markets, which is me.
While exploring on google reader and catching up with my blogs I stumbled upon a concept by Filip Slovacek on The Design Blog. This product caught my eye due to the simple nature of its presentation. Everyone is just looking for simplicity in life and the Mask Watch concept developed by Slovacek creates that simplicity. The watch would allow the user to see only the numbers necessary while hide all the other numbers that are not currently needed to tell the time. It takes on the form of an analog clock while preforming the functions of a Digital one. Beside being stylish and chic I think this would be extremely efficient. I feel as though young adults and business people avoid wearing digital watches because of their overall appearance but this watch would bridge that gap. I just wish I had thought of it first.
Since taking part in this design entrepreneurship class I have become more aware to the projects going on around me. I recently noticed via instagram that one of my fellow high school classmates had started her own jewelry company. Though we haven’t spoken in years I was thoroughly excited to see how well she was doing, because I know from the process learned in this class that it is not an easy accomplishment to make. She is currently promoting her handmade jewelry through social media and blogs and is selling these pieces on her etsy. I think, besides making beautiful and wearable art, she is doing a wonderful job of showing her individual process she posts everything from receive a new shipment of beads to the trunk shows she attends. I think this allows her customers to really connect with each individual product and displays the true handmade nature of her jewelry. If you have before heard of TXGoldenGirl Jewelry, I highly recommend taking a look.
This past year the design department received the donation of a Vinyl Cutter. I have been fortunate enough to get multiple chances to experiment with it and create pretty interesting pieces. This video is of Jorge Oswaldo, an artist from LA that creates intricate layered vinyl pieces that deserve to be shared. He is inspires me to try everything under the sun with regards to design. Enjoy.
These past few weeks in class we have been working with branding and creating identities for our individual products and services and part of the is developing a strong logo. Jorge Oswaldo is an artist that is not creating logos of his own but rather gathering inspiration from existing logos of large corporations and using them to create amazing works of art. I find these pieces intriguing and its almost like a game to see if you can guess all of the logos that are appearing in one painting. I think the one posted above is my favorite… see if you can find the three logos I found. I think as an artist he has taken consumer culture that is second nature to us in this day and age and created beautiful works of art. He also shows you how ingrained these brands are in our mind that we don’t even need to see the whole logo or any significant part of it yet we still know what it is.
This product has the same great Idea that helped develop the HAB- IT. People desire to remain organized and space these days is becoming more and more precious. Stitx is a laptop and ipad based organizer that allows people to maintain a clean workspace no matter where they decide to set up shop. It keep all necessary items in useful yet out of the way location, not mention it the fabric mixed with leather looks quite fashionable. I most likely would utilize this product for computer based items and keys or wallet like the pictures display, but that doesn’t take away from the function these pockets server. They come in many customizable colors and layout making them extremely versatile. I would recommend every young designer doing freelance out of a coffee shop to invest in this. They are trying to reach a goal of 7,500 dollars to jump start the production of this product so get to donating and reorganize your life.
